Edgartown Woman Killed in Single-Car Crash in Oak Bluffs
February 5, 2010 - Oak Bluffs - A woman from Edgartown was tragically killed Monday night in a fiery car accident near a hospital parking lot.
According to reports in The Martha's Vineyard Times, 37-year-old Rachel Dow was driving her 1998 Acura Legend when she lost control of the vehicle and drove into the woods where her vehicle caught on fire around 5:45 p.m.
Witnesses to the fatal car accident told police they saw Dow's car driving in the parking lot, cross the road and crash into the nearby woods. Police believe a medical emergency may have caused her to crash the vehicle and keep her foot on the gas pedal after the crash, which may have led to the car's catching fire.
Dow was unresponsive to emergency crews when they arrived, and was pronounced dead at Martha's Vineyard Hospital.
