March 31, 2010 - Houston, Tx. - A personal injury lawsuit has been filed after it was discovered that car rental company Hertz endangered customer's lives by renting out recalled Toyota vehicles. The case was filed in California by the Houston-based law firm, of Vujasinovic & Beckcom (with which our firm is very familiar).
PRNewswire reports that 4 businessmen were injured in a Feb. 13 car accident involving a recalled Toyota vehicle that was rented to them by Hertz Corporation. All 4 passengers in the vehicle were injured, and one of the men suffered severe internal injuries. The car in question was a recalled 2010 Toyota Camry, which was included in 3 recalls at the time the accident occurred and should not have been on the road.
The crash occurred when the driver attempted to apply the brakes on the Camry and the car sped out-of-control and struck another car at a high rate of speed. Lawsuits have been filed against both Toyota and Hertz, as both companies demonstrated negligence in this instance.
About 52 deaths have been attributed to Toyota's well-known unintended acceleration issues and about 8 million cars have been recalled by Toyota. Though the manufacturer has advised vehicle owners to fix the problem with a new gas pedal or floor mat, some experts believe that the real problem lies within Toyota's electronic system. The auto manufacturer vehemently denies that there is anything wrong with that aspect of their vehicles.
