March 17, 2010 - Falmouth - An unidentified man escaped serious injuries after his car plunged into Falmouth Harbor on Monday night. According to reports at The Cape Cod Times, the man was driving on Clinton Avenue when his car drove into the harbor. Police believe the man may have been trying to commit suicide. The car accident occurred around 6:30 p.m. on Monday.
Witnesses saw the car plunge into the harbor and called police. When first responders arrived, the man was already out of the water and he was transported by ambulance to Falmouth Hospital. The local fire department continued to search the harbor for several more hours with the assistance of the U.S. Coast Guard because witnesses said they saw more than one person in the vehicle. The search was halted after 8 p.m. because of poor visibility. The car has not yet been found.
Investigators continue to look into this car accident and will be resuming their search for the vehicle on Tuesday. Police still need to determine if there were any additional occupants in the car and how the driver was able to extricate himself from the vehicle before it sank.
