March 4, 2010 - Andover - A truck accident Tuesday afternoon in Andover injured three people, more than was initially suspected in the first few reports on the crash. According to reports in The Sun Chronicle, the multi-vehicle accident was caused by a 17-year-old driver who lost control of his car and crashed into a guardrail. The car was then hit by a semi-truck, which rolled over after the collision.
The 17-year-old driver's name has not been released, but he suffered serious personal injuries in the crash. He was treated first at Lawrence General Hospital before being airlifted to Beth Israel Hospital. His passenger, 47-year-old Larry Armstrong, was also injured in the truck crash, and is receiving treatment at Lawrence General Hospital. The driver of the truck, 33-year-old Varry Ramos, was airlifted to Beth Israel Hospital with potentially life-threatening injuries. The conditions of the three victims are currently unknown.
The truck accident occurred shortly after 3 p.m. on I-495 South near I-93. Since it occurred during rush hour, the truck rollover accident caused a severe traffic backup when nearly all lanes of I-495 were closed for several hours.
