In November 2009, a lawsuit was filed in a Rhode Island U.S. district court on behalf of a woman who claims that Citibank is charging her excessive fees. Under the suit, Michol K. Murphy alleges that Citibank has raised her annual percentage rate without cause, even though her account is in good standing, and her current credit agreement does not expire until April 30, 2010.
This credit card company class action lawsuit comes in advance of upcoming lending rule changes enacted by the Obama administration. Since the signing of the Credit Card Act of 2009, credit card companies have engaged in some rather underhanded practices in order to maintain their bottom lines.
Credit card companies have implemented annual fees, and in some cases raised interest rates, in order to take advantage of consumers before the new rules take effect. If you feel you have been a victim of excessive fees or overcharges, you may have a case for a class action lawsuit.
