
March 29, 2010 - Sandwich - A teenager from Sandwich was killed last Wednesday in a motorcycle accident on Route 130. According to reports at The Boston Globe, the victim has been identified as 16-year-old Richard Bellis.
Bellis was driving a motorcycle shortly before 9 p.m. on Wednesday evening when a police officer attempted to pull him over for driving the motorcycle without headlights. According to the officer involved, Bellis was also speeding right before he turned off onto a side road and crashed his motorcycle. The officer caught up to accident scene and called emergency personnel. Bellis was not conscious when the officer arrived, and police have not said if he was wearing a helmet.
Bellis was taken to Cape Cod Hospital, but his personal injuries were too severe and he was pronounced dead shortly after the crash. An accident reconstruction team from Cape Cod is investigating the crash and attempting to determine how the fatal motorcycle accident occurred. The Sandwich Police Department and Massachusetts State Police are also assisting with the investigation.
