
March 9, 2010 - Lynn - Six people, including several small children, were injured on Sunday night in a head-on collision on Holyoke Street. According to reports in The Daily Item of Lynn, Iris Riveria was driving a Hyundai Elantra when she drifted into oncoming traffic and crashed into an Acura driven by Revere resident Samantha Carrabino. The accident occurred at approximately 10:30 p.m.
Police believe Iris Riveria was distracted by her children when she drove into oncoming traffic and collided with Carrabino's vehicle. Carrabino and her passenger, who has not been identified, were treated for personal injuries at Melrose Wakefield Hospital. Riveria was driving with three children in her vehicle, and all four were taken to Massachusetts General Hospital with personal injuries. While this car crash was very serious, police believe that all of the victims are expected to survive.
Iris Riveria is facing several charges stemming from the car accident, including charges related to operating a motor vehicle without a current driver's license and driving negligently. Police continue to investigate and more charges may be forthcoming in the near future.
