
March 4, 2010 - Salem - A taxi driver is facing numerous charges after he hit a woman in a crosswalk on Sunday. According to reports in the Salem News, 26-year-old Christian Nunez was driving his taxi on Palmer Street in Salem when he ran a stop sign and struck the unidentified victim, who was walking with a two-year-old child in a stroller.
Police have not released the identity of the victim. She suffered personal injuries to her left leg, but she refused to be taken to the hospital or to be treated by first responders. The two-year-old child was not injured. The victim told police that Christian Nunez was talking on his cell phone directly before hitting her in the crosswalk. She asked the driver to stop and wait for police to arrive, but he left the scene of the accident.
Nunez has been charged with a host of complaints, including running a stop sign, failure to yield for a pedestrian, and fleeing the scene of an accident. His court date has not yet been set.
