March 12, 2010 - Yarmouth - The woman who drove her Toyota RAV4 into a Yarmouth doctor's office on Tuesday believes that the car accident may have been caused by the accelerator problems plaguing Toyota vehicles across the country. According to reports at NECN.com, 70-year-old Ann Wilkins said her foot was on the brake when the SUV accelerated, drove up onto the front porch, and crashed into a wall near the front door of the doctor's office.
Wilkins told investigators that she had just recently taken the Toyota SUV to the dealer to address the accelerator recall, but it's currently unclear what maintenance was performed there. Wilkins' son told NECN.com that his mother, Ann Wilkins, has never been involved a car accident, so he believes the car may be to blame.
Wilkins suffered minor personal injuries in the crash, including back injuries. The Yarmouth Police Department currently has possession of the Toyota RAV4, and they will be conducting tests to determine what caused the crash. Their initial testing showed that the car was working normally, but they will be conducting more tests before drawing any conclusions.
