
March 11, 2010 - Wareham - One man was hospitalized on Tuesday due to serious injuries he sustained in a head-on collision on Interstate 195. According to reports at SouthCoastToday.com, 47-year-old Robert Cavanaugh was seriously injured after a Dodge Stratus driven by 25-year-old Alcidia Pereira drifted into oncoming traffic and crashed head-on into Cavanaugh's Pontiac Grand Am.
The car accident occurred shortly before 10 a.m. Due to the nature of this collision, both cars were extensively damaged. Rescue workers had to extricate Cavanaugh from his vehicle, and he was then airlifted to Rhode Island Hospital. His condition is currently unknown, but police say the injuries he suffered were severe.
The driver of the car that caused the accident, Alcidia Pereira, was not seriously injured. Pereira and two other occupants of her car were treated for minor injuries at St. Luke's Hospital. Pereira may face charges in this car accident once investigators conclude their report on the crash. The names of the other occupants have not been released.
