March 23, 2010 - Quincy - One woman was injured when she was hit by a car in Quincy. According to reports at Wicked Local Quincy, 46-year-old Janet Vinton suffered serious personal injuries when she was hit while walking across Hancock Street in a crosswalk. Vinton was treated for her injuries at Boston Medical Center, where she has been stabilized and is expected to survive.
Police say 17-year-old Makayla Smith was behind the wheel of the car that hit Janet Vinton. Smith had just received her junior driver's license less than a week prior to the accident. Smith is facing a variety of charges in connection with this pedestrian accident, including negligent operation, driver's license violations, and failure to yield to a pedestrian. Makayla Smith was driving with another teenager in the car, even though the rules of the junior driver's license program mandate that drivers in their first 6 months of driving cannot drive with anyone who is not a family member.
Police say Janet Vinton was in a crosswalk when the accident occurred, but they have not released the results of their investigation into exactly what caused this crash. Smith is due to appear in Quincy District Court in the near future.
