
Child sexual abuse (CSA) is a criminal offense in which "an adult engages in sexual activity with a minor or exploits a minor for the purpose of sexual gratification." This definition is provided by the National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children, and similarly, The American Psychiatric Association states that "An adult who engages in sexual activity with a child is performing a criminal and immoral act which never can be considered socially acceptable behavior."

In addition to the immediate injuries and harm done to the child, sexual abuse can cause long-term negative effects and serious psychological harm to sexually abused children.
Negative Effects of Child Sexual Abuse
The negative effects of child sexual abuse can include depression, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), long-term psychological trauma, and of course the actual physical harm that often accompanies CSA. Physical harm may include internal damage and bleeding, infections related to sexually transmitted diseases, or in severe cases, even death.
