Pedestrian Suffers Head Injury After Being Struck by Tow Truck in Worcester

February 16, 2010 - Worcester, Mass. - A young man suffered serious personal injuries when he was struck by a tow truck while attempting to the cross the street on Thursday morning.

According to New York Injury News, a 24-year-old male was starting to cross near the intersection of Park Avenue and Institution Road at about 11 a.m. when the truck hit him.

The pedestrian victim was transported to UMass Memorial Medical Center for the treatment of an apparent traumatic brain injury (TBI).

The driver of the tow truck was identified as a 25-year-old employee of Pat's Towing. The truck reportedly had a green light and had begun to drive on Institution Road toward Park Avenue when it struck the man. Witnesses to the accident were unable to pinpoint exactly how fast he was traveling when the collision occurred, and police officers have not yet said whether charges would be pressed against the tow truck driver.

The accident occurred close to Worcester Polytechnic Institute's campus. The names and current condition of both men involved in the Worcester accident have not yet been released. Police continue to investigate the pedestrian crash.
