2000-2003 Toyota Tundra Recall Is Now Nationwide

March 12, 2010 - Washington, D.C. - Auto maker Toyota has expanded its list of recalled vehicles to include all 2000 to 2003 Tundras sold in the United States.
Edmunds Inside Line reports that this is actually an expansion of an earlier recall on Toyota Tundras, which are being recalled for problems with frame corrosion. Previously, only 20 states were included in the Tundra recall, which will now include all Tundras manufactured between 2000 and 2003.
The issue of frame corrosion can be dangerous because it may cause either the gas tank or spare tire to fall off the vehicle, particularly when the rear crossmember is corroded. Originally, Toyota attributed the corrosion to salt used on the roads in cold weather states.
It is unknown how many vehicles the expanded Toyota recall involves. The original Tundra recall, announced in November of 2009, included about 110,000 vehicles. At the time, Toyota advised Tundra owners to remove the spare tire from under the car, and to take the vehicle to a dealership to be inspected. With some trucks, the crossmember, or even the brake lines, had to be replaced.
Tundra owners are encouraged to take their truck to a dealership, and to call 1-800-331-4331 if they have questions.
