Massachusetts Residents Among Those Killed in Florida Bus Crash

February 23, 2010 - Boston, Mass. - Authorities have confirmed that 2 of the 3 passengers who died in a fatal charter bus crash Monday were from Massachusetts. The accident occurred at about 2:15 p.m. on Route 27 in central Florida.

The Patriot Ledger reports that one of the victims was John F. Roy, 79, a retired lawyer from Cohasset, Mass. His wife, Dolores, was with him on the bus, and suffered serious personal injuries in the crash.

Joan Horsch, 78, also died in the rollover bus accident. Horsch was originally from Weymouth, Mass., but moved to Virginia 10 years ago to be closer to her 4 children. Many of the 32 passengers aboard the bus were from the Boston or New York areas.

Authorities said the bus crash was caused when a car driven by Betty J. Adams, 81, did not yield to traffic when entering the highway. As a result, Adams struck the side of the charter bus.

Adams was not injured in the crash, but nearly all 32 passengers aboard the bus suffered serious personal injuries, with 3 victims remaining in critical condition. Police have not yet released the names of the injured victims in the crash.
