Woman Dies In North Attleboro Shooting
Posted on Feb 04, 2010
February 4, 2010 - North Attleboro, Mass. - A 20-year-old woman was killed in a police stand-off that ended in a double shooting at a local motel on the morning of January 18.
According to projo.com, 23-year-old Jose Vidal shot Ashley Purdy, before turning the gun on himself at North Attleboro's Pineapple Inn, where the pair had checked in together.
Because Vidal was already a wanted suspect in a 2007 rape, local police had surrounded the motel after they had been alerted to his presence. Gunfire was heard shortly after police surrounded Vidal's room and attempted to arrest him.
When police entered the room, they found Purdy, who had been struck by a fatal gunshot and Vidal, who suffered life-threatening personal injuries, including a traumatic brain injury. Doctors at Rhode Island Hospital have since declared Vidal as suffering brain death.
Respondents to the scene included the Massachusetts State Police and their K-9 unit, as well as North Attleboro Police Department. Additionally, the State Police Air Wing was activated.
We offer our deepest condolences to the family and friends of Ashley Purdy for their tragic and heartbreaking loss. Our heart goes out to everybody who knew and loved Purdy. Please keep them in your prayers.
