Woman Suffers Neck Injuries in Saugus Accident

February 19, 2010 - Saugus, Mass. - A Massachusetts woman suffered neck injuries in a frightening, weather-related single-car accident Tuesday afternoon in Saugus.

According to ItemLive.com, Maria Faria, 62, was pulling into her driveway in her 2004 Honda Civic at about 4:15 p.m., when suddenly, the car began sliding and dropped off a 30-foot embankment. The Honda rolled and landed on its roof on Amero Lane below. The victim was conscious when firefighters arrived on the scene, but emergency crews had to slide through the small opening left by the passenger side window in order to get her out of the vehicle.

Once Faria was removed from the car, she was fitted with a cervical collar and transported to Massachusetts General Hospital for the treatment of neck injuries. Firefighters had trouble responding to the accident, as snowy weather made the roads slippery and impassable.

Though believed to be weather-related, authorities have not yet determined a cause for the accident. Faria remains in treatment for her neck injuries.
